MECALAC Wheel Excavator 9MWR – Overview
High-performance 8-ton wheel excavator designed for exceptional mobility, stability, and versatility on demanding urban and confined worksites
The Mecalac 9MWR is a highly innovative and compact 8-ton wheel excavator that pushes the boundaries of conventional excavator design by uniting wheeled and crawler advantages in one machine. Part of Mecalac’s ground-breaking MWR series, the 9MWR delivers an ideal balance of mobility, stability, and lifting strength—resulting in outstanding profitability and versatility on job sites.
Thanks to Mecalac’s unique architecture, the 9MWR boasts a remarkably compact full swing diameter of just 2,866 mm (9’5″), comparable to a much smaller 3-ton machine. This ultra-small swing radius means the 9MWR can manoeuvre in narrow, urban environments and confined worksites where larger excavators simply can’t operate. Despite its reduced footprint, it still offers powerful performance.
Powered by a 55.4 kW (75 hp) engine, the 9MWR provides strong hydraulic output and smooth travel, achieving travel speeds of 20 km/h in standard mode and up to 35 km/h in fast drive. This ensures efficient switching between digging and transport tasks without compromising stability or control.
Performance-wise, the 9MWR is engineered for demanding applications. It supports 0.57 m³ (0.75 yd³) buckets, delivering superior material-handling capability. Its break-out force is rated at 5,000 daN (11,240 lbf), giving it excellent digging and penetration power. The machine also maintains a robust lifting capacity of up to 3 tons at 360°, enabling it to perform precise lifting and placement tasks with ease.
Manoeuvrability is a core strength of the 9MWR. Its three steering modes—4-wheel steer, single-axle steer, and “crab” steer—allow it to navigate tight corners or make near in-place turns. This agility is complemented by a multi-part boom design that enhances amplitude and control, whether working on excavation, pallet fork operations, or high-reach tasks.
Safety and operator convenience are central to the 9MWR’s design. Thanks to a lowered centre of gravity, the machine remains stable without sacrificing ground clearance. The cab is easily accessible, and optional integrated camera systems improve visibility around the machine. Mecalac’s philosophy emphasizes intuitive user experience, ensuring controls are simple, maintenance is straightforward, and operational efficiency is maximized.
In a nutshell, the Mecalac 9MWR wheel excavator stands out for its compact size, powerful hydraulics, 360° lifting capability, and versatile steering, making it an ideal choice for construction, utilities, urban landscaping, and material-handling jobs where space is at a premium but performance is non-negotiable.
