Wessex SM-66 Scrubmaster Slasher – Overview
Heavy-duty rotary mower designed to clear dense scrub, woody vegetation, and rough terrain with power and precision
The Wessex SM‑66 Scrubmaster Rotary Slasher is a powerful and rugged rotary slasher designed for clearing dense scrub, woody growth, and rough vegetation. Built by Wessex International, this machine is engineered for demanding forestry and landscaping applications, combining high durability with serious cutting performance to tackle even the toughest areas.
At its core, the SM‑66 Scrubmaster features a heavy gauge steel deck and a robust gearbox, delivering maximum drive transmission for high-torque cutting. The drive system uses a friction-plate clutch to absorb shock and protect the drivetrain, while the gearbox is built with hardened bevel gears that operate in an oil bath — ensuring smooth, reliable power delivery.
One of the key advantages of this rotary slasher is its interchangeable cutter options. You can choose between a blade assembly or chain cutters, depending on the terrain and vegetation. The blade version consists of four heavy-duty reversible blades mounted on a hardened steel plate, capable of producing over 2,000 1-ton impact cuts per minute — ideal for aggressive brush, brambles, and woody material. Meanwhile, the chain cutter variant uses three high-tensile chains mounted on a circular boss, making it more suitable for stony ground, tree stumps, or situations where blade damage is a risk.
To help manage tough terrain, the SM‑66 is equipped with adjustable side skids. These skids have replaceable wear shoes, allowing you to fine-tune the cutting height. It also features a fully floating headstock, which lets the mower follow uneven ground without putting excessive stress on the frame. A heavy galvanized chain helps support the unit when it’s lifted out of the working position.
Material containment and mulching are integral to the design. The tailgate is constructed from heavy-gauge steel to trap debris under the deck, producing a fine mulch as the machine works.
In terms of power requirements, the SM‑66 needs a minimum of 45 hp to operate effectively. With a 170 cm working width (overall width approximately 1.8 m), it offers a good balance of coverage and manoeuvrability.
The Wessex Scrubmaster SM‑66 is particularly well-suited for forestry operations, scrubland management, firebreak maintenance, plantation rides, and rough land reclamation. Whether you’re working on estates, moorlands, or woodland edges, this slasher is built to last and built to clear.
